Paint the *Kitchen* Red

We move in less than two weeks and we are definitely getting anxious!

One of the first projects I plan to tackle will be the kitchen

Currently the kitchen looks a bit like this (previous owner’s furniture and decorations):

It is very yellow and I believe there are chickens and sunflowers everywhere…

There are good bones to work with. The cabinets are in pretty good shape and are white and the counter tops are in good shape.

We definitely plan to take down the wall paper and any decorations he leaves. There is currently no back splash so we will install a tile back splash (I hope I can try to do this on my own…but we will see…). I have yet to decide on a color (any ideas?)…

Maybe a grey square tile…

I think we will paint the walls a light grey and add some red accents. I have already collected many red kitchen items on accident and think it is a fun color to play with.

Here are a few pictures I have found for inspiration:

I’m in love with these red stools from World Market and we are going to do a island/cart instead of a table to save on space (the dining room is right next to the kitchen and is a more informal space).

I also have thought about doing one of the walls in chalk board paint… I love the idea of putting shopping lists, menus, or cute messages on the wall.

A great place to go for design inspiration and tips is or you can download their app for your phone or iPad! I have found so many great articles and images on their site, I would definitely recommend it! I love design and am so excited to get my hands on a paint roller and paint brush! It is exciting to finally to get to live somewhere we can call our own and do whatever we want to!
